Formulary Management
The Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee evaluates pharmaceutical products to determine therapeutic value, cost-effectiveness, and comparative effectiveness by using evidence-based medicine.
These evaluations are accomplished by using:
- Peer-reviewed medical literature
- Published practice guidelines developed by an acceptable evidence-based process
- AMCP formulary dossier
- CMS-accepted compendia
- FDA-approved labeling for the product
Added Safeguards
You and your employees have the added safeguard of policies that can prevent harmful and unnecessary drug utilization, encourage the practice of evidence-based medicine, and prevent unnecessary costs.
Our formularies and clinical programs allow coverage for a drug when it meets clinical and economical criteria. The National Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee – including independent physicians and pharmacists – regularly review our policies.
Our utilization management programs don't dictate member care. They do, however, help guide members to medications proven safe, effective, and cost-efficient.
